Allagash Dubbel Reserve
(3.5 stars)

Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a stemless wine glass. Cloudy, caramel colored, with a solid inch of thick heady goodness. It smells syrupy, bready, and of candied fruit. The initial taste is biscuity and malty. Additional sips reveal caramel and the distinctive Belgian yeast flavor. The alcohol content warms the palate but isn't overpowering. Overall it's a good Dubbel but not quite up to the standards set by Chimay and St. Benardus.
