Double Jack And Maharaja Blind Test

I was surprised by this one. Thanks to my wife for blind fold me on this one. Sometimes I think I judge a beer by the hype or a particular brewery that I like. So Firestone Walker Double Jack has always won, 3 blindfold tests so far. Recently I reviewed Avery Brewing Maharaja and was blown away. Since that beer had been hyped somewhat, I wanted to do a blind test with the Double Jack. To my surprise, the Maharaja was a clear winner! It was fresher in hop aroma and the flavor was exploding with fresher citrus juice. Pineapple, grapefruit, and a lot more floral. The sweetness was the same. Double Jack had a heavier body and more earthy and some garlic character that I never picked up before. Both were bottled near the same date. Anyhoo, it doesn't mean much but it was fun to do. Both beers are 5 stars.
