Jester King & Mikkeller Collaboration Weasel Rodeo Imperial
(4.5 stars)

This variation on an imperial oatmeal stout, brewed in collaboration with Mikkeller, contains a healthy dose of authentic Kopi Luwak coffee (a.k.a. “weasel coffee”), along with other Vietnamese coffees, ground chipotle pepper. and a touch of smoked malt.

This beer pours like liquid midnight, with a very thing and quickly dissipating mocha colored head. It almost looks like coffee as it sits in my Jester King snifter. On the nose I definitely get some dark chocolate, roasted malt, and roasted coffee beans. There is also a fair amount of booze in the nose, but it's almost unnoticeable in the taste. On first sip the wonderful dark chocolate notes come through first with a little sweetness and then supremely smooth notes of fresh brewed coffee. There is a very subtle bitterness with a touch of warmth on the back of the throat. This beer swarms the inside of your mouth, but it's not overly heavy or sticky. Overall this was a great beer, especially if you like coffee. Definitely something I would drink again. Can't wait to break open the barrel aged version in the fridge!

They have Jester King over there? Or just their collabs with Mikkeller? I thought it was cat **** coffee at first also, but a friend of mine who is a coffee nerd sent me an article about it. I felt a little better after learning it came from a weasel that's exclusive to Indonesia, but there is only a certain level of comfort that can be reached when ultimately it still comes from ****. Great beer though! Haha
