Weihenstephaner Festbier
(4.0 stars)

This is a slightly stronger, fest-friendly lager that pours an amazing clear bright pale-gold with a small, but beautifully clean white head. Those trademark German-lager aromas of grassy, herbal hops and grainy, bready malts are there, but, as the beer warms slightly, it’s the fruity zing of extra hops that becomes apparent on the nose – and is immediately noticeable on the palate. Indeed, the Festbier’s hops deliver a lingering, and quite delicious, honey, citrus fruit and spice aftertaste; making the brew highly drinkable but much more flavoursome than a simple quaffer.

Located just north of Munich, the birthplace of Oktoberfest, the Weihenstephan Brewery is no novice to brewing, with roots in beer-making going back to the year 768. Weihenstephan became licensed in 1040 and is recognized as the world's oldest working brewery.

The reputation of the Weihenstephan brewers as true masters of their craft has grown in strength over the centuries, and today’s modern commercial brewery – and the world’s best known University of Brewing – occupy the former monastery buildings. The Weihenstephan Brewery maintains close links with the University. In the brewery, students from around the world are let into the secrets of the Bavarian art of brewing. Many of the world’s best brewers have been trained here and many breweries draw their yeasts from the famous Weihenstephan yeast library. Weihenstephan combines hundreds of years of brewing experience with the most up to date brewing technology and innovation.

Prost .... Have a great Octoberfest!
