iPhone Location Browser
April 10th, 2008 by sI often run into difficulty explaining the concept of Metosphere since I don’t always have my laptop with Android emulator at hand. So I whipped up an iPhone webapp that has similar functionality to the Android version.
I decided to focus on an iPhone webapp for now, since most people I know have unJailbroken iPhones. Thankfully, FireEagle handles the location info nicely. The backend is the same, so any geospatial information created in either the iPhone or Android version shows up in the same, um, metosphere.
Features:
- Create geotagged objects at your location (messages, alerts, events, reviews, etc.)
- View geotagged objects created by others in your proximity (list or map)
- List nearby events from Upcoming and Eventful
- List nearby geotagged Wikipedia pages
- I left out the GeoBlog functionality for now since that’s still in flux while I’m finalizing the forthcoming Android release.
- I used the CiUI iPhone UI instead of IUI because it seems faster.

Thanks for the iPhone version. I’ve read about your stuff online, but I have no plans to get a Google Phone. If I’m reading between the lines, you plan to have a non-web application for the iPhone as well done the line?

Yep. I’m working on a native iPhone version with the SDK right now.
I don’t have the patience to wait for an actual Android phone. Plus, most of my friends have iPhones, so it’s a natural fit.

I am looking for an app that will automatically geotag the photos the iPhones takes, as you are making an app ready for June (I cannot wait, only 19 days left) can you interface with the camera app?
I’d like to upload to Flickr, the images that is but the Eagle Fire service looks more expansive, maybe upload to multiple sites, or I think Fire Eagle allows for data access… anyway getting photos geotagged with the wi-fi triangulation would be nice. Yes I know wi-fi triangulation is not spot on but its a kick in the pants to Apple

Hi Samuel, I hate doing this, but Apple is being very restrictive with discussing the SDK and their NDA.
I’m sorry.
