Full Sail Session Black Dark Lager/Dunkel

This dark lager has won multiple awards at prestigious beer festivals, but...I'm not sure how. I find nothing about it to be extraordinary, let alone superlative. It doesn't have the rich maltiness that should be evident from its dark roasted grains. I get a little bit of hops on the tongue, but none on the nose, and they are by no means memorable. Honestly, I don't think I could differentiate this from Michelob Dark in a blind taste test. It's been eons since I've enjoyed Bavarian Dunkeles on tap in it's homeland, but the memory is of a much richer brew in both maltiness and hoppiness.

I tried the original Session lager a few years back: Nothing to distinguish it from Bud or Miller. I won't buy it again, so it won't be rated here. I have now tried all three of the Session varietals and I have not enjoyed any of them in the slightest. They are reminiscent of their progenitors in those awful 11 oz. "stubbies"--beers that are gone and best forgotten such as Stroh's, Blatz, and Carling Black Label. Full Sail makes some excellent ales in many different styles, but I can't say the same for their lagers.
